BOYS PREP BASKETBALL Crusaders cash in at free throw line to defeat Cascade St. Mary's free throw shooting was key to the Crusaders' 57-49 Southern Cascade League victory over Cascade Christian on Tuesday. Chris Murphy was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line and teammate Jeff Haas was 3-of-3, leading the Crusaders to a 13-of-18 team performance at the line. "I told the kids (before the game) in order to win we must rebound, play good defense and make our free throws, and that's exactly what we did," St. Mary's coach Tim Pflug said. "I was very proud. We finally played to the level (as a team) that I knew we could." Pflug added that he was especially proud of the Crusaders' performance because it was a combination of "a coach coaching and a team playing and doing what they were told." St. Mary's went up by six points in the fourth quarter on a 3-point basket by Brian Becker. The Challengers were only 6-of-10 from the line on the night. Murphy was the leading scorer for St. Mary's with 16 points and J.P. Naumes added 14. Cascade Christian was led by Don Jenkins and Andy Baker with 12 points each, while Joe Moxley added 10. St. Mary's improved to 10-5 overall and 2-0 in league. The Crusaders are scheduled to play make-up games Friday at 6 p.m. in Lost River and Saturday at 3 p.m. at home against Chiloquin.
