That was a straight-set loss to open Southern Oregon Conference play. The second time around, the Eagles coach was prepared for the defense-minded Cavers and came away with a 25-19, 17-25, 25-15, 25-20 victory. "They go to their middles a lot," explained Groves. "Our goal was to serve them hard enough where their setter had to go to the outside. "Also, we covered the middle of the floor because we knew they would dump. We were prepared for any garbage they would give us." Advertisement The victory moves Eagle Point (7-4, 4-4 SOC) a game ahead of Grants Pass in the SOC standings and puts the Eagles in a favorable state playoff position. "The girls knew this was a much-needed win for momentum and confidence," said Groves. "If we would have lost tonight, it could have set the tone for the rest of the season." Eagle Point setters Annie Mannenbach and Amanda Grieve combined for 34 assists. "Both our setters hustled their butts off," said Groves. "They did a good job of getting the set up in some difficult situations." Senior middle Ashley Curtis posted a team high in kills (18) and blocks (six), while junior outside hitters Nicole Lucas added 10 kills and Shannon Richardson nine. Sophomore Reilly Johnson, who moved up from the junior varsity, led the Eagles in digs. For Grants Pass, senior outside Katie Tardieu came up with 20 digs and sophomore outside Ashley Franko added 17. SOUTH MEDFORD 25-25-22-25, CRATER 8-13-25-21 — At Central Point, South Medford reached the .500 mark in the SOC with a four-game win over the Comets (0-8). Senior setter Stephanie Anderberg had 36 assists, 17 digs and five aces for the Panthers, and junior teammate Jen Mendenhall had 15 kills and six blocks up front. For Crater, junior Justine Bettencourt had 22 digs and eight kills while freshman Arlisa Hoffman added 12 digs. ROSEBURG 25-25-25, KLAMATH UNION 11-20-13 — At Klamath Falls, Roseburg swept the Pelicans to improve to 7-1 in the SOC and 13-4 overall. Katie Fuller had 12 digs and eight blocks for the Indians, and teammate Lindsy Bartholomew added six kills, five blocks and 22 assists. Corynn Jorgensen had 11 digs. For Klamath Union (1-7), Kendra Bliss had six kills and Christine Croxford added two aces in a losing effort.
