The 18-month Oregon Department of Transportation construction project will replace the two-lane vehicle bridge between Wal-Mart and Interstate 5. Talent City Manager Betty Wheeler gave an update on the project at Wednesday’s Talent City Council meeting. The city has a grant to build a pedestrian bridge between Lynn Newbry Park and the Bear Creek Greenway. Building a path over Bear Creek for foot and bicycle traffic has been a city concern since the early 1990s. The council decided Wednesday to return the grant money because the ODOT project has been expanded to include a pedestrian crossing. County commissioners will award a construction contract at their April 20 meeting and announce a construction timeline. "It will provide much safer access to the Greenway," Talent Mayor Marian Telerski said. In other business, the council approved a liquor license for Pipon’s Cocina & Cantina, an authentic Mexican restaurant opening on the south end of town later this month, set a deadline for council members to return comments for Wheeler’s three-year evaluation, and appointed seven-year Talent resident Erin Hill to the budget committee.
