Bartels pitches Mustangs to victory Andy Bartels went eight innings to pick up his first win of the summer season as the Medford Mustangs American Legion baseball team downed Fairfield (Calif.) B&L Industries 5-4 Tuesday at Miles Field. Fairfield, which had already played 35 games and amassed a 28-7 record, racked up 10 hits over the nine-inning contest but still came up short. The Mustangs (10-6) extended their 1-0 lead with a four-run fifth-inning. Phil Ouellette led things off with a single and moved to second after Dan Bruce was hit by a pitch. Colby Gonzales followed with an RBI single and then moved to second on a wild pitch and later scored along with Bruce on a Travis Dunlap single. Charlie Jensen was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Matt Skundrick lifted a sacrifice fly into the outfield to score a run but Jensen was forced to vacate second base when Chuck Shine mistakenly tried to advance from first. Both Jensen and Shine were tagged out resulting in an inning-ending triple play. Fairfield scored one run off reliever Chase Tester but failed to tie things up.
