Richardson’s left-field blast, her first of the season, gave the Eagles (7-2) a 4-3 victory. Hillsboro took the opener, 4-1. Richardson finished with two hits, while Kelsey Heider struck out four in the complete-game effort that improved her record to 6-1. Eagle Point committed two errors in the seventh inning that allowed a run home, but a groundout to first squashed the Spartans’ rally. In Game 1, pitcher Danielle Culfrey gave up three hits and provided two hits offensively to lead Hillsboro. Advertisement Dawn Wilkerson had a pair of hits for the Eagles. ASHLAND 5-14, MARSHFIELD 0-6 — At Ashland, Amanda Bolsinger fired a two-hit shutout in the first game and Aimee Jeska threw a four-hitter in the second game as Ashland swept Marshfield in nonconference softball. Bolsinger overpowered the Pirates with 10 strikeouts in the five-inning first game. Janice Jones provided the thrust offensively with two hits and one RBI. In Game 2, the Grizzlies broke open a tight game with a seven-run sixth inning. Amanda Cardoza smacked a two-run single and Jeska had a two-run triple in the big inning. Jackie Renteria went 3-for-5 and scored three times for the Grizzlies (6-2) in the latter contest. Cardoza, Jeska, Alysse Carlson and Bailey Hasty added two hits apiece. MAZAMA 6-3, SOUTH UMPQUA 7-1 — At Klamath Falls, Mazama’s Ashley Dimwiddie had five hits over both games of a nonconference doubleheader split. Dimwiddie belted three doubles in the opener and drove in three runs, but South Umpqua took advantage of Mazama’s seventh-inning miscues to secure the win. Angie Young and Quemby Cox added two hits apiece for the Vikings (2-2) in Game 1. Freshman pitcher Kayla Hampson tossed a complete-game, four-hitter in the nightcap. Hampson, Becky Borror and Camie Fure each had a pair of hits to pace Mazama at the plate. Baseball PHOENIX FROSH 11-15, BUTTE FALLS 1-5 — At Phoenix, Dustin Smith and Kyle Giron each went 5-for-7 at the plate to power the Phoenix freshmen to a sweep of Butte Falls. Smith had a double and triple among his five hits and also scored seven runs, while Giron had two triples and four RBIs. Smith also starred on the mound for the Pirates, holding Butte Falls hitless in the five-inning first game. Derek Burns and B.J. Parker each had two hits for Butte Falls (0-3) in Game 2.
