The district’s budget committee has approved a nearly $75.3 million budget for the fiscal year that starts in July. The district’s budget for 1999-2000 was $75.7 million. The 2003-04 budget totaled $79.5 million. The budget before the board provides $1.3 million less for elementary education, $1.1 million less for middle schools and $1.6 million less for high schools than they received this year. The district will eliminate two administrative jobs, 42 teaching positions and 40 support staff jobs. Advertisement Most of the cuts were made when people retired or left the district, officials said. The district plans to reinstate a music program for kindergarten through sixth grade. The teachers’ union agreed to pay $50 monthly insurance premiums to free money to pay for the music program. The school district won’t have to cut school days. Class sizes will increase at middle and high schools. The board meets at 7 tonight at the South Medford High School cafeteria for a final budget hearing.
