Adams stifles Crook County, 3-0 EAGLE POINT � Summer Adams didn�t score in Eagle Point�s 3-0 girls soccer victory over Crook County Tuesday, but the freshman goalie had a big impact in the final result. Adams came up with three important stops of shots at close range when the game was deadlocked in a scoreless first-half. In the opening 40 minutes, Crook County (1-1) outshot the Eagles 8-5 and Adams recorded six saves. "She did a real nice job of keeping us in the game," Eagle Point coach Tim Sweeney said. The Eagles (2-2) took a 1-0 lead two minutes before halftime when freshman Lisa Beene scored on an assist from Reene Marlia-Johnson. The Eagles linked a series of passes with Marlia-Johnson floating a pass over the goalie�s head to the backside where Beene was uncovered from six yards out. "That was a big momentum- turner going into halftime with the lead," said Sweeney. The Eagles made some adjustments at halftime that proved successful. "We focused on controlling the passing at the midfield and making the other team chase us," said Sweeney. Jenna Bilden gave Eagle Point a 2-0 lead 12 minutes into the second half on a play set up by Melissa Goslin�s indirect kick inside the penalty area. Senior Amanda Kingery recorded her first varsity goal when she volleyed in a corner kick by Tera Jackson at the 73rd minute. Another change that helped the Eagles in the second half was moving sweeper Michelle Morton to defense. "Michelle got our defense organized and they only had four shots on goal in the second half," said Sweeney. SOUTH MEDFORD 6, KLAMATH UNION 3 � At Klamath Falls, once the Panthers caught up with Samantha Gilbert there was no turning back in non-conference action. Gilbert, a standout in track for the Pelicans, outran the Panther defense and scored on all three of her shots in the first half. South altered its strategy in the second half, inserting a track star of its own in Heather Frigaard to shadow Gilbert and hold her scoreless for the rest of the game. The Panthers countered with three goals in each half of play. Colleen Salisbury notched a hat trick with three goals and Erin Reno added two. Lyndsey Hawk chipped in the other goal for South (2-3), while Katie Casebeer had two assists and Abby Fowler one. CRATER 5, MAZAMA 0 � At Central Point, Crater freshmen Cassidy Reina and Sarah Lafontaine continued to add excitement to the Comet program with two goals apiece in non-conference action. Reina got things going for Crater (4-1) in the seventh minute with a goal off an assist by Tessa Austermuehle. Lafontaine gave the Comets a 2-0 lead at halftime when she stole the ball deep in Mazama�s zone and scored at the 38th minute. Reina once again sparked Crater with a goal two minutes into the second half off an assist by Lafontaine, who notched the final two goals.
