Fortuna runs over Hidden Valley FORTUNA, Calif. - Jeremie Boquet and Chris Holman ran wild as Fortuna High rolled to a 34-7 non-conference victory over Hidden Valley on Friday night. The Mustangs (0-1) were unable to stop Fortuna's veer-option attack, with Boquet and Holman combining for 205 rushing yards on just 22 carries. Boquet sparked a 21-0 first quarter for Fortuna by returning a punt 85 yards to open the scoring. Boquet added touchdown runs of 25 yards later in the first and 5 yards in the third. Holman's 19-yard touchdown romp and the following extra point made it 28-0 in the second before Josh Mundell scampered 4 yards for Hidden Valley's lone score. Tim VanderStoel converted the PAT. Seven Raiders accumulated four or more kills, including sophomore outside hitter Kristina Matchett's match-high 17 and eight from senior all-star Shelley Gorin. As a team, Southern (6-1, 1-0) converted 54 of 118 attack attempts for a 30-percent efficiency while holding the Knights (0-1, 0-1) to a nine-percent clip (26-for-103 with 17 errors). Baseball * BASEBALL NORTHWEST TAKES TWO - Bill Rowe of Ashland High went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead Baseball Northwest to a 15-1 rout over the Racine (Wis.) Hitters in the nightcap of a doubleheader at the Labor Day Classic tournament in Tucson, Ariz. In the opener Mike Allen, Rowe's classmate, scored the first run of a 4-1 win over Amateur Baseball Development from Los Angeles County. Boxing Enrique Gallegos of the Bulldog Boxing Club defeated Alex Trevino of Michigan in the 147-pound open senior division to advance to the semifinals at the Ringside National boxing tournament in Olathe, Kan. Gallegos rocked Trevino with a straight right hand, knocking him to the canvas and inducing a standing eight count by the referee. Gallegos then proceeded to pepper a drowsy Trevino with a series of combinations, forcing the referee to stop the fight in the first round. Gallegos joins Mike Wilson, also of Bulldog Boxing, in advancing to today's semifinals. Wilson defeated Mike Prindle, the all-Army champion, in the superheavyweight open senior division Thursday. Javier Torres, a 13-year-old from Bulldog Boxing, will fight in the finals of the 125-pound, 13-14-year-old division on Sunday.
