Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend March 1, 2006 Police-shooting victim arrested A Cave Junction man whom deputies shot in the head after allegedly driving a vehicle at a Josephine County sheriff’s deputy was arrested Tuesday upon his release from a Portland hospital. Kurtis Korff, 39, was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear in court and transported to the Multnomah County Justice Center. It is not known when he will return to Josephine County to face charges stemming from Sunday’s incident. The deputies involved in the incident were identified as 30-year-old Jim Geiger and 44-year-old Brad Johnson, the Oregon State Police reported. Geiger is an 8½ -year veteran of the sheriff’s department; Johnson has been a deputy there for 5½ years. Korff is one of five men suspected of a Sunday night burglary and attack on a Cave Junction man. They allegedly hit the man in the face with a gun butt before he escaped and called police. While interviewing the man at an area away from his residence, the suspects pulled up in a car. The sheriff’s deputies ordered them to stop. The driver got out and followed the deputies orders while Korff, the front-seat passenger, got in the driver’s seat, OSP said. Geiger fell while scrambling to reach his vehicle. Korff allegedly "gunned" the engine and drove the car toward Geiger, who was able to right himself and fire. Both deputies fired their weapons at Korff, OSP reported. Advertisement Korff was hit in the head and taken to Three Rivers Community Hospital and then air-lifted to the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. The other four suspects surrendered to police without incident. Many of them have previous drug arrests or convictions, according to authorities. Korff has drug convictions dating back to 1991. He served time in the Oregon State Penitentiary in the late 1990s for drug and child-neglect convictions. Investigators are still searching for a woman believed to be associated with the case. Sherie Irene Wright, 48, is wanted for burglary and assault. Her last known address was the Brookings area. She may be in a white 1982 Chevrolet Camaro, Oregon license YKR 353 or TNZ 338.
