The previous record was hit six times, most recently in 2007 and 1996, according to the weather service. Thursday is expected to be even warmer, with a high of close to 90 degrees predicted, according to the weather service. The previous record for April 7 is 83 degrees, set in 1996. "If we do hit 90, it will be the earliest 90 in the spring," said meteorologist Ryan Sandler. The current date for the earliest 90-degree day in Medford is April 13, 1947, Sandler added. The latest is July 4, 1953, and the average date for the mercury to climb that high is May 24. Roseburg also saw its longstanding daily temperature record for today knocked off. The city's temperature today topped out at 81 degrees, one degree warmer than the April 6 record set in 1949, according to the weather service. Roseburg's April 7 record of 84 degrees, which was set in 1934, will be threatened Thursday, as well. Looking ahead to Saturday's Pear Blossom Run and parade, forecasters expect a high in the upper 60s with a chance for showers. Sunday's high is expected to be in the lower 60s, with a chance for showers. Reporter Mark Freeman contributed to this story.
