Three vie for two spots on Central Point council Allen Broderick, left, Rob Hernandez, and Richard Wedsted Wednesday Oct 26, 2016 at 11:01 PM Here are the contenders for two seats on Central Point City Council; both are four-year terms. Ballots were mailed Friday and must be returned by 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, to the Jackson County Elections Office or one of the 24-hour drop boxes available at the Ashland, Rogue River, Central Point and Eagle Point libraries. Allen Broderick Age: 56 Occupation: Principal broker/owner, i5 Real Estate Education: Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, San Jose State University Political experience: Eight years on City Council, two years on citizens advisory board, liaison to Parks and Recreation Commission, Southern Oregon Regional Economic Development Inc. board, founding member of development commission. Top priorities if elected: Continue to maintain involvement with capital improvement programs, including downtown renovation and parks improvements. Work toward some commonsense uses of city easements in the downtown area in order to improve development options and encourage the older neighborhood renovations.   Rob Hernandez Age: 62 Occupation: Construction company owner (retiring) Education: 1972 graduate Crater High School Political experience: Oregon Construction Contractors Board, two years as chairman; city of Central Point Planning Commission and Budget Committee; Jackson County Fire District 3 Budget Committee. Top priorities: To maintain the comfortable livability of Central Point by carefully considering all opportunities for the expected future growth of our city, while not ignoring our past and values.   Richard Wedsted Age: 40 Occupation: Route sales for Franz bakery; outerwall field engineer Education: High school Political experience: None Top priorities: Growth and balanced budget for a sustainable future for Central Point. Central Point is a great community with potential for growth commercially as well as for staying the small town we all love and are proud to call home. My focus is the family and providing services in line with public demand without continuing to excessively burden property owners.
