Cascade Christian thumps Bonanza Its season may have been on the line, but the Cascade Christian boys basketball team made sure there were no doubts in Wednesday night's Southern Cascade League playoff game at Superior Gym. Behind 22 points and 12 assists from junior point guard Mychal Sha and a season-high nine 3-pointers as a team, the Challengers (15-9 overall) thumped Bonanza, 88-59. Cascade Christian plays host to Lost River - a 56-53 winner over Gilchrist on Wednesday - at 6 p.m. Friday in Superior Gym, with a berth in the Class 2A state tournament going to the victor. Junior guard Tyson Walker, coming off the Challengers' bench, drilled five 3's and scored 18 points. Sophomore forward Brandon Fair was Cascade Christian's third scorer in double figures, tallying 11 points. Senior forward Zach Mellow powered the Challengers on the boards with 13 rebounds to accompany eight points. Cascade Christian took a 23-13 lead after one quarter and pulled to a 44-24 advantage at the half. In the third quarter, the Challengers rattled off 3's on four consecutive possessions, first from junior guard Jon Gettman, then Sha, then Fair and, lastly, Walker. Buddy Kness paced Bonanza with 16 points, and teammate Mike Nieraeth contributed 12.
