Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend January 11, 2006 Mazama rules the boards in win over Phoenix Prep Basketball PHOENIX — Mazama proved downright offensive when it came to rebounding, and that was Phoenix’s undoing in Skyline Conference boys basketball Tuesday. Mazama (8-7, 3-0 Skyline) grabbed 19 offensive rebounds, benefited from 19 Pirate turnovers and outran the host in the late going to pull away for a 60-52 win. "Our biggest problem is we don’t rebound," said Phoenix coach Kevin Dixon. "We’re getting killed on the boards. We don’t block out very well. Nineteen offensive rebounds, that was the difference in the game." Phoenix (8-7, 1-2 Skyline) led 36-33 after three quarters, limiting Mazama to four points in the third quarter. The two then went back-and-forth until a stretch of three possessions, when the Pirates missed shots and were beaten to the other end of the floor by the Vikings for baskets. "It went from a one-point game to a seven-point game," said Dixon. "All of a sudden, we weren’t getting back." Advertisement Drew Reed and Mike Saltenberger scored 17 and 14 points, respectively, for the Vikings, and they tallied 21 of Mazama’s 27 fourth-period points. Ben Decuir had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Phoenix, Marty Joseph had 12 rebounds, Dustin Smith scored 11 and Joey Shepherd 10.
