Raider wrestlers claim NWC championship TACOMA, Wash. Southern Oregon stormed to the team championship and also garnered two major individual awards Saturday at the Northwest Wrestling Conference Championships at Pacific Lutheran University. The Raiders scored 111 points and, in the championship finals, had wrestlers in all but two weight classes. At two weights, they had both finalists. In addition, SOUs Mike Ritchey was chosen coach of the year, and freshman John Sills, who won the 165-pound championship, was named the meets outstanding wrestler. "I was pretty proud of the boys today," said Ritchey. "We had some pretty good matches and avenged some losses we had during the year, so it was a good tournament for us." Sills earned the top individual award because he defeated a couple of veteran district champions en route to the title. In the finals, he beat Matt Ballard of Central Washington, 8-5. Ballard won the weight class last year. Earlier, Sills defeated Troy Hall of Pacific, who took the 157 title last year and was third this year at 165.
