I was given a choice of all three vaccines; I chose the J&J. Why do we not hear anything about the J&J when the media talks about vaccines and the Delta variant? Is the J&J as good as the other two, and is it as effective against the Delta variant? — Jim B., Medford Johnson & Johnson has not released data about how its vaccine fares against the Delta variant, Jim, but studies are being conducted. According to a study from Public Health England from late May, the AstraZeneca vaccine, which is similarly effective to Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine, was 60% effective against the Delta variant. It was 6% less effective against the Alpha variant. The same study showed that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was 88% effective against the Delta variant. It was 5% less effective against the Alpha variant. Given this, it is unlikely that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be as effective against the Delta variant as Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna, which has performed similarly to the Pfizer vaccine.
