Ashland Chamber award goes to DeBoer ASHLAND -- Businessman Alan DeBoer was named citizen of the year by the Ashland Chamber of Commerce at its annual banquet Thursday night. DeBoer, owner of Town and Country Motors, has served on the Ashland City Council and the Ashland School District board. He also has been active in the Ashland chamber and the Ashland YMCA. The chamber also presented Ashland City Administrator Mike Freeman a public-private partnership award for his efforts in bringing city government and the business community together. The chamber honored Lucille and Earl Sission as its volunteers of the year. They were recognized for volunteering at the chamber's plaza information booth and the chamber office. The award was renamed the Gladys Billings Memorial Volunteer of the Year award to honor the longtime chamber volunteer, who passed away recently. The retail business of the year award went to Ashland Camera, owned by Doug and Leona Mitchell. Certified public accountant Virginia Vogel's practice was honored as the service business of the year. The manufacturing business of the year was Artisan Press, owned by Dana Welsh and Don Dedrick. The chamber also gave its honorary life member award to Jim Watson, who spent six years on the chamber board and has been involved in community activities since moving to Ashland in 1987.
