Clarke, McCandless spur Challengers CHILOQUIN -- In a game that was close all the way, Casacade Christian leaned on its two standout post players to earn a 63-55 Southern Cascade League victory over Chiloquin on Friday night. Junior Kelly Clarke scored a game-high 24 points and senior Christine McCandless added 19 as the Challengers pulled away in the final three minutes for the win. "We went to our spread offense in the final few minutes and that worked out well," Cascade Christian coach Loren King said. "We were able to run some time off the clock, get a layup or two and shoot some free throws." Clarke was 4 of 6 at the line in the fourth period and also scored once in the delay game after taking a pass from Heidi Flood. The host Panthers led 14-12 after one period, but Cascade Christian went on a 19-10 run in the second quarter to take a 31-24 halftime lead. The win lifted the Challengers to 1-1 in the SCL and 11-6 overall. CASCADE CHRISTIAN (63) -- Clarke 24, Ch. HOSANNA CHRISTIAN 55, NEW HOPE CHRISTIAN 48 -- At Klamath Falls, Hosanna Christian outscored New Hope Christian 12-5 in overtime to claim the Skyline A League Southern Division victory. With the score tied at 43, New Hope (1-5, 2-11 overall) entered overtime with momentum, having outscored Hosanna 17-10 in the fourth quarter. When two of New Hope's leading scorers were injured in the overtime, Hosanna was able to seal the victory. Becka Wilkinson and Kristy Bush led New Hope with 13 points each. Wilkinson, a sophomore forward, added 17 rebounds, eight steals and three blocked shots. Bush, a sophomore guard, also contributed nine rebounds, eight steals and one blocked shot. Senior Faith Hashek helped New Hope with 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Grace Childers led Hosanna with 13 points. NEW HOPE CHRISTIAN (48) -- Wilkinson 13, Bush 13, F. PROSPECT 49, PAISLEY 25 -- At Prospect, senior forward Ginny Lewis sparked Prospect to its sixth straight Skyline A League Southern Division victory with a 15-point, eight-rebound, four-steal performance. Prospect (10-3, 6-0 Sky A) used a full-court zone press to open the game with a 16-1 burst. The Cougars pulled out of the press midway through the second quarter but still ended with 27 steals. Addie Stockebrand helped the Cougars' strong defensive effort with seven steals. Prospect's Jessica Kraemer and Monica Applegate registered five assists each. NORTH LAKE 58, BUTTE FALLS 57 --Stephanie Monroe registered a game-high 20 points as North Lake rallied past upset-minded Butte Falls. The Loggers outrebounded and outshot the Cowgirls but their 27 turnovers proved to be their undoing. Junior post Elizabeth McLaughlan had her best game of the season for Butte Falls with 13 points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Freshman wing Krystal Rowley came off the bench to score 13 points for the Loggers, hitting three 3-point baskets along the way. Krystal Robey added 10 points for North Lake, which improved to 6-0 in the Skyline A League Southern Division. Butte Falls fell to 4-2 in league play.
