The setback allowed the 16th-ranked Owls (23-8, 14-4) to sew up second place and home-court advantage through at least the Cascade Conference tournament semifinals, while the 24th-ranked Raiders (18-14, 13-5 Cascade) settled for third-place. SOU hosts sixth-place Eastern Oregon in the quarterfinals at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at McNeal Pavilion, while OIT hosts seventh-place Evergreen State at the same time. The Raiders, who led by as many as four points in the first half before falling behind 30-27 at the half, fell to 2-32 against OIT on the road since 1983. SOU shot 8-for-20 in the second half compared to a 17-for-28 effort by the Owls (61 percent). Advertisement Sophomore forward Shea Washington was the lone Raider in double-digit scoring (a game-high 23), while freshman point guard Levell Hesia was a red-hot 9- for-11 for 22 points for OIT, including four 3-point makes. Women’s Basketball OREGON TECH 82, SOUTHERN OREGON 70 — At Ashland, OIT used an early second-half spurt to cruise to a Cascade Conference triumph over SOU at McNeal Pavilion. The Owls (19-9, 13-5 Cascade), who finished the regular season in a three-way tie for second place in the 10-team league, used a 23-5 run over eight minutes straddling halftime that resulted in an insurmountable, 56-39 lead with 13 minutes to play. The Raiders (8-17, 7-11 Cascade), who finished in a seventh-place tie with Albertson, got no closer than nine the rest of the way. Junior reserve guard Paula Pritchard canned 4 of 6 3-point attempts for a team-best 12 points for SOU, while senior guard Lindsey Hilaire scored 10 points in her final intercollegiate home game. Junior center Lindsey Aitchison scored nine and hauled in 10 rebounds in 14 minutes of action. OIT, which notched the program's first win in Ashland since 1989, received a game-high 24 points and 13 rebounds from junior transfer forward Nikki McElligott, and freshman guard Lindsey Carmichael came off the bench for four 3s among 22 points. Both teams shot 42 percent for the game, but SOU's 44-41 rebounding edge was negated by 21 turnovers and 15 Owl steals. Southern led 16-11 in the opening moments and 34-33 with 1:07 left in the first half prior to the game-deciding Owl spurt. Although opponents will be determined by tiebreakers for second and seventh place, OIT hosts a conference tournament quarterfinal game Tuesday, while the Raiders will be on the road at either Eastern Oregon, Warner Pacific or Northwest the same night.
