Investigation revealed Epstein Invited minors to his Manhattan residence and paid them to provide massages to him, which turned sexual in nature. Epstein's assistant in NY set up appointments for minors to go to Epstein's other residences outside of NY. In July 2019, Epstein was arrested on child sex trafficking charges but later died in custody awaiting trial. During NY's investigation numerous victims were identified across multiple jurisdictions and several co-conspirators were identified. Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's long-time girlfriend, was identified as one of his co-conspirators. In July 2020, Maxwell was arrested and charged with Conspiracy to Entice Minors, Enticement of Minors, Conspiracy to Transport Minors, and Transportation of Minors. In March 2021, a Federal Grand Jury returned a superseding Indictment against Maxwell, which included two new charges, to include Sex Trafficking of a Minor and Sex Trafficking Conspiracy for the timeframe 2001— 2004. On November 29, 2021, the jury trial of Maxwell commenced in the Southern District of NY and is expected to last 4-6 weeks. This case exemplifies NY's ability to work top tier, high profile, complex, multi-jurisdictional cases.
