--> --> Fourth parade theme will be `Let Freedom Ring' By Mark Norby Ashland Daily Tidings The Ashland Chamber of Commerce 2002 Fourth of July Committee is accepting nominations for the parade grand marshal. This year's theme will be "Let Freedom Ring," officials said today. There will be a T-shirt contest that reflects the theme, and the theme and T-shirts will be used for publicity supporting the Chamber's annual patriotic showcase that draws tens of thousands of people from far and wide to Ashland. "The parade is integral to our mission," Ashland Chamber of Commerce Fourth of July Chair Yolanda Nagel said. "It is in the spirit of Ashland and each year we aim to enhance our feeling of community." The grand marshal is the person honored as the ceremonial leader of the parade who arranges and directs its formal aspects, chamber officials said. Residents should nominate people they think are appropriate and explain why the person would be a good choice. Past grand marshals include the late activist Steve Groveman and former State Representative Nancy Peterson and former Chamber President Rick Nagel. Nominations will be accepted until Feb. 22. The deadline for T-shirt designs is March 22. The T-shirt contest winner will be notified by the Chamber and will receive a small stipend and reserved bleacher seats at the parade.
