Cougars edge Knights in thriller MERLIN � Daniel Houston hit a layup with eight seconds remaining in the game to lift Illinois Valley to a 73-71 Skyline Conference victory over North Valley on Tuesday night. The Knights� Joe Maue launched a potential game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer but the shot rimmed out. Brandon Henry led the Cougars with a game-high 24 points and Houston added 16. Junior post Derek Wright paced North Valley (8-10, 4-5 Skyline) with 20 points and senior wing Scott Butterbaugh added 18 points and eight rebounds. HIDDEN VALLEY 69, ROGUE RIVER 63 � At Murphy, the Mustangs were able to overcome poor free throw shooting to pull out a Skyline victory over the Chieftains. Hidden Valley, 6-3 in Skyline, connected on 25 of 42 attempts at the free throw line including 18-for-28 in the fourth quarter. Senior Colin Carr paced the Mustang offense with 21 points. Junior Derrick Schoner had a game-high 24 points for Rogue River, 1-8 in Skyline, but was ejected in the fourth quarter after receiving two technicals. The Vikings (5-4 Skyline) led just 28-25 after three periods before breaking the game open in the fourth. Sophomore forward Tyler Larson added 12 points and nine rebounds for the Vikings.
