North Medford boys breeze past Roseburg in SOC tennis ROSEBURG -- The North Medford boys tennis team continued to have its way with Roseburg on Thursday. After an earlier 5-4 win over the Indians, the Black Tornado swept the singles matches for the first time this season in a 9-0 Southern Oregon Conference win. In the final singles match, North Medford's David Heyerman trailed the Indians' Dustin Stevenson 5-1 in the first set before mounting a rally to pull out the 7-6 win. Heyerman went on to take the final set 6-3, setting up a wild first doubles match. The Black Tornado's tandem of Brock Jonasson and Jeremy Leeber faced a 1-0 hole after falling in the first set 6-4 but rallied to take the next two sets in the first doubles match. The third doubles match also saw the North Medford duo of Colin Olson and Colin MacNamara trail 5-1 before racing back for a 7-6 win in the first set. They closed things out 6-3 in the second and final set. "We knew it was going to be a tough match," said North Medford coach Ray Odor. "The kids realized the rivalry these two schools now have in tennis and it showed in our intensity." The Black Tornado improved to 5-1 in SOC play. "Overall, I thought this was our best performance of the year," said Odor. "At every position we had guys do what they needed to do to win." SINGLES -- Jon Endrikat, NM, d. Girls Tennis NORTH MEDFORD 6, ROSEBURG 3 -- North Medford swept all four doubles matches to remain undefeated in the Southern Oregon Conference with the victory at District Courts. The Black Tornado (8-0 SOC) welcomed back sophomore Jenny Brown, the No. 1-ranked, 16-under United States Tennis Association player in the Pacific Northwest, who participated in her first conference dual of the season. Brown has been playing in various junior tournaments. Brown filled in for injured Andrea Pratt in the top doubles position and teamed with Kelsey Chamberlain for a 6-0, 6-0 win over Emily Williamson and Lathena Weber. Pratt is nursing a sore elbow, but is expected back in the lineup for Saturday's match against Grants Pass. Brown will move into the top singles spot against the Cavers. North freshman Annie Chaney lost a tight three-set match in No. 1 singles against Roseburg's Becky Correll. Jason Easton, Roseburg's No. 3 player, won the medalist honor with a 1-under-par 71. Ashland's Per Englund finished second with a 73. BANDON INVITATIONAL -- At Bandon, Jayme Berkowitz of Brookings shot a strong 37 on the front nine and then blew away the competition with a 27 on the back nine for an 8-under-par 64 to win the Bandon Invitational on Wednesday at Bandon Dunes. Berkowitz finished seven strokes ahead of Coquille's David Blomquist for the title. Roseburg earned the team title with a 297. Jeremy Thorburn paced the Indians with a 72.
