Schoner, Luchterhand boost Chiefs BROOKINGS - The Rogue River boys kicked off the 2001-2002 basketball campaign in fine form with an 80-65 non-conference victory over Brookings-Harbor Monday night. Senior Derrik Schoner led the Chieftains with 27 points, two-thirds of them coming on six 3-pointers. Senior Jason Luchterhand added a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds. The Chieftains (1-0) led by two points through one quarter, but the hot outside shooting of Schoner and the inside game of Luchterhand pushed the lead to 10 by halftime. "Schoner was on fire, and Jason scored a lot of easy inside buckets," said Chieftain head coach Scott Anderson. "They'll be two of the top players in the league." Sophomore Ryan Girodat chipped in 10 points and eight boards for the Chieftains. Luchterhand also had eight steals. Senior Mark Blagden paced Brookings with 21 points.
