Mountain View goes to great heights to beat North The Cougars, who boast four players 6-foot-3 or taller in their starting lineup, dominated the inside to upend the Black Tornado, 76-54, at North High. Playing without 6-4 post Travis Poulton, who is still nursing injuries from the football season, the undersized Tornado kept the game close until Mountain View used a 31-10 scoring edge in the third quarter to ease past North (0-2). Zach Taylor scored a team-high 17 points for the Tornado, while 6-4 post Gabe Burchfiel worked hard for 12 rebounds, five assists and five points to pace North. Skyler Ashbaugh, a 6-3 reserve, led the Cougars with 21 points while 6-8 center Brandon Yon added 14. SOUTH MEDFORD 73, BEND 62 - Eric Fiegi and Ryan Heil each scored 21 points and Boomer Marshall had a strong all-around game in leading South Medford to a 2-0 start. Fiegi also pulled down six rebounds and Heil had five steals, while Marshall chipped in 15 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Tyler Hayes poured in a game-high 25 points for Bend (2-1). CRATER 70, SOUTH EUGENE 65 , OT - At Eugene, the Comets found their shooting touch when they needed it most in claiming the championship of the South Eugene Tournament. Crater (2-0) went 0-for-4 late in the fourth quarter and South Eugene took advantage by scoring the final five points to send the game into overtime. In the extra session, however, Crater went 5-for-6 from the charity stripe to seal the victory. Derek Petersen hit six 3-pointers and led the Comets with 24 points, while Andrew Norum had 12 points and seven rebounds despite playing only two quarters after suffering an ankle injury. The Cougars (0-2) were dealt a blow to their hopes when Nolan Lenderman fouled out in the first quarter. Lenderman finished with five points, two shy of the team-high mark by freshman Sean Harju. Prospect also played without 6-foot-5 returner Brian Andresen, who hyperextended his knee in a loss Friday night.
