McLeod carries Crater to title game PLEASANTON, Calif. Crater needed yeomans work out of Jodi McLeod, and the senior post delivered as the Comets advanced to the championship game of the Amador Valley Classic girls basketball tournament Friday. McLeod, counted on heavily while fellow post Bre Johnson nursed a sore ankle, scored 15 first-quarter points as the Comets started fast and routed Clovis West of Fresno, Calif., 64-49. Crater (4-0) faces host Amador Valley, ranked second in Northern California, in tonights title game. "Thats probably the best weve played for a half," said Comets coach David Heard. "They had two big posts. We played a zone, and Jodi just dominated them." The Clovis West big girls 6-foot-1 Lindsey Shaver and 6-2 Sarah Mongomery each scored 21 points the night before but were held to 13 each by Crater. McLeod had 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Comets built a 42-13 halftime lead and finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds, seeing limited action in the second half. Amy Denson contributed 21 points, five rebounds and four steals in the win, and Sarah Pool had nine assists. "They played a box-and-one on Sarah Pool, and the other kids really responded," said Heard. The Comets face a small, athletic team tonight in Amador Valley, which is led by All-American guard Mia Fisher, who has signed a letter-of-intent to play for Santa Barbara. Heard expects a packed house and a frenzied crowd, which will be entertained by Thunder, the Golden State Warriors mascot, he said. "Itll be a great atmosphere, even though well have everything working against us," said Heard.
