White City fire stopped at 5 acres Friday By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Jul 29, 2022 07:03 PM A A A helicopter attacks a fire off Corey Road and Foothill Road near White City Friday afternoon. [Andy Atkinson / Mail Tribune] A structure fire that spawned several spot fires Friday afternoon near the intersection of Corey and Foothill roads outside White City sent columns of black smoke into the air and snarled traffic before firefighters were able to get a handle on it limit the spread to about 5 acres. Multiple spot fires and windy conditions challenged resources, according to the Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest Division. Firefighters expected to remain on scene into the night mopping up and continuing to ensure new spot fires would not emerge. Roads throughout the area were blocked off, and Level 2 “Be Set” evacuation warnings were sent to residents in the vicinity as the firefight intensified at about 5 p.m. Fire District 3 crews were assisted by ODF and other agencies. Numerous engines as well as ODF’s Type 3 and Type 2 helicopters were employed in the fight.
