Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend February 1, 2006 Infant-sex assault suspect pleads not guilty By CHRIS CONRAD Mail Tribune A 30-year-old Medford man pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Jackson County Circuit Court to charges that he sexually assaulted a 6-month-old child who lived with her father in a home for recovering drug addicts. Justin Trevor Humber, of the 600 block of South Holly Street, remained lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of unlawful sexual penetration, criminal mistreatment and felony assault. He was held in lieu of $1 million bail. A trial date has not been set. According to detectives, the alleged sexual assault occurred while Humber was watching the baby. He lived with the infant and her father at the Holly House, a transitional home for recovering drug addicts. The child’s father cooperated with investigators. Investigators would not reveal what evidence led them to arrest Humber. The infant remained Tuesday in protective custody with the Department of Human Services, said Medford police Lt. Tim George. "That is soon to change from what we understand," George added. "The child and father will be reunited." Advertisement According to George, Humber lived at the Holly House with his two children, ages 2 and 4, who are now in DHS custody. Their mother’s status is unknown. Court records show Humber was convicted in 1998 of attempted felony assault in Douglas County. A ward of the state, the infant girl was living with her father at the Holly House. A child-care provider at an OnTrack drug- abuse recovery program for mothers reported the alleged abuse Jan. 11 to child-welfare workers, who called police, officials said. The 27-year-old father had to leave the Holly House during the investigation because eligible residents must have children in their care to live there, officials said. Humber was one of three OnTrack Dads Program graduates living in Holly House at the time of the alleged abuse. They lived there with their children, all under the age of 5.
