The Knights (16-4, 13-1 Skyline Conference) wrapped up the conference title two games ago but were reminded by coach Byron Robertson of the importance of a momentum-gaining win to end the regular season. Elaina Renius had 21 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks and the Knights held a double-digit lead most of the way in a 62-48 victory over Lakeview. "We’ve gone two-and-out the last two years (in the Class 3A state playoffs)," said Robertson. "It’d be nice to get a win there. "I thought tonight we came out and played well even though there wasn’t much on the line." Advertisement North Valley hosts a first-round, state-playoff game with a yet-to-be-determined opponent on March 6. Renius, a 6-foot-3 post, had help in the scoring column with Carly Burns and Whittney Makepeace each adding 10. Liz Albertson led Lakeview (14-9, 8-6) with 13 points. The Honkers, the Skyline’s No. 4 seed, host No. 5 Henley on Tuesday in a first-round conference playoff. LAKEVIEW (48) — Albertson 13, Bradberry 10, Kiely 9, Tucker 6, Cahill 4, C. Phoenix holds the tiebreaker and advances to the state playoffs. Illinois Valley will host a league playoff game next week against the Lakeview-Henley playoff winner. The Hornets (7-7 Skyline) jumped out to a 34-13 lead at the half and held off any Chieftain attempt at a rally. Laura Jones led Rogue River (2-12) with 11 points. Morgan, who had 33 against Mazama on Tuesday, also hauled in 16 rebounds for the Hornets (17-6, 9-5 Skyline), who trailed by three with less than five minutes left. J.T. Vaughn scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Chieftains (11-13, 6-8), the conference’s No. 5 seed, which visits fourth-seeded Henley on Tuesday in the first round of the league playoffs. Darren Clark added 16 points for North Valley (15-9, 10-4 Skyline) and Anthony Spain and Miles Hohnstein scored 10 points apiece. Point guard Shaun Ash had seven assists and nine points. The win created a three-way tie for sixth among the Cougars, Vikings and Lakeview.
