Schoner, Luchterhand lead Rogue River past Lancers ROGUE RIVER - With Derrick Schoner stroking shots from the outside and Jason Luchterhand dominating inside, the Rogue River boys basketball team rolled past South Umpqua, 74-63, on Wednesday. The Chieftains improved to 6-0 on the strength of 52 points from the Schoner-Luchterhand combination. Rogue River shot 13-of-19 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, when it outscored the Lancers (3-1) 26-15 for the winning margin. "We're real pleased," said Chieftains head coach Scott Anderson. "This was our biggest test of the year so far." Schoner, a 5-foot-8 senior guard, was on fire from the start, dropping three 3-pointers in the first quarter and adding one each in the final three periods for a game-high six. His 29 points is a career-high. "He's just a pure shooter," Anderson said. "You give him an inch, and he'll drain it on you." Luchterhand, a 6-4 senior forward, had 10 rebounds to go with his 23 points, and he drilled a field goal at the third-quarter buzzer to tie it heading into the fourth. Senior point guard Luke Mortinson had seven assists in directing Rogue River's attack. South Umpqua was paced by 15 points from senior forward Jason Stevenson. The same two teams hook up again Friday in the opening round of Illinois Valley's tournament.
