Smith rides three winners at GPD By Mail Tribune staff Oct 14, 2020 10:06 AM A A GRANTS PASS — Jockey Taylor Smith won three races, including two for owner-trainer Jackie Smith, as Grants Pass Downs reached the halfway point of its fall meet on Tuesday. Taylor Smith won the first and eighth races aboard Jackie Smith horses, Bob Again and Megatron Ruler, respectively, on the eighth day of the 16-day meet. It was to be 18 days, but two were lost to unhealthy air quality. Taylor Smith also won on First Moon Cat in the third. She is third in the jockey standings with seven victories, behind Joree Scriver (14) and McKenzie King (eight). Jockey Deudis Pena-Mora, making his debut at GPD this fall, won the second and fifth races, and trainer Jorge Rosales notched a pair of victories in the second and seventh. The seventh, the Medford Handicap, was the feature race, and Luis Gonzalez guided Fantastic Day to the 6 1/2-furlong win by nearly 2 lengths over Ramblin’ Man. The winner’s share of the $12,950 purse was $7,122. The track handled $346,964, including almost $225,000 over the final four races.
