Challengers battle past Crusaders In a game where you can toss out the wins and losses, the Cascade Christian girls basketball team found a way to win. Senior Kelly Clarke scored 14 points and Laural Kelley added 11 as the No 9-ranked Challengers battled past St. Mary�s to a 52-42 win on Tuesday at Superior Gym. Cascade Christian improved to 18-3 overall and 7-1 in the Southern Cascade League while the Crusaders fell to 2-6 and 6-13 overall. "It�s always close when we play those guys," said Cascade Christian coach Loren King. "It doesn�t matter what the records are. One team could be 0-20 and the other 20-0 but it still would be a battle." The Challengers led throughout but the 10-point final margin proved to be the biggest lead. Kristin Salamone scored seven of her 10 points in the third quarter to help Cascade Christian up a four-point, half-time lead to seven entering the final stanza. Kelley took over from there, tallying six of the Challenger�s 18, fourth-quarter points. Christina Vaninetti led all scorers with 16 points for St. Mary�s,while pulling down five rebounds and blocking six shots. Cascade Christian remains one game behind undefeated Lost River in league play. The Challengers host the Raiders, which won the first outing, 62-54, at 4 p.m. on Saturday. CASCADE CHRISTIAN (52) � R.
