SOC BASKETBALL Ashland's long bombs sink Klamath Union KLAMATH FALLS -- Klamath Union concentrated on stopping Ashland sophomore phenom Jackie Woods inside, but the Grizzlies burned the Pelicans from the outside in Southern Oregon Conference girls basketball Tuesday. The hot-shooting Grizzlies remained undefeated in the SOC with a 65-52 victory over the Pelicans. "We felt like we wanted to hold Woods down," Klamath Union coach Jack Sharp said. "In trying to help inside, we opened up the outside shot and they really knocked them down well." Ashland (9-3, 5-0 SOC) shot 48 percent (24-50) from the field, including a big third quarter where the Grizzlies were 12 of 16 with three 3-pointers. Klamath Union (9-4, 2-3 SOC) led 20-14 with two minutes remaining before halftime, but the Grizzlies went on an 8-0 run to end the second quarter. Then Ashland opened the third period with a 5-1 spurt. "They're such a quick team and are very explosive," said Sharp. "They scored something like 36 points in a 10 minute span and we weren't able to match that." Junior post Chelsea Morgan led the Grizzlies with 18 points.
