Stay put at that red on Barnett When going east on Barnett Road, at the intersection of Barnett and Highland, can you proceed through a red light from the right lane after making a complete stop? Since there is no right-hand turn, what's the difference between that and going straight through when there's no other traffic at the intersection? -- Dave H., Medford No, Dave, you cannot proceed on a red light. Unless it's flashing, you have to stop and stay stopped until it turns green. This is a strict rule, even if it's kind of dumb one at a T-intersection like Barnett and Highland. As for the second part of your question, city traffic engineers say you make a good point. The intersection is not unlike those on Biddle Road, which has a designated through-lane on the right heading south that keeps things moving except at McAndrews. To make it work on Barnett, the city would need to divide the left and right lanes (this is done with flexible plastic poles on Biddle) and install a new green-arrow light.
