R.V. Open features top-notch netters The fifth annual Rogue Valley Open Tennis Championships will start today and run through Sunday at the Rogue Valley Swim and Tennis Club. The Open features a senior class, clay court competition and indoor pro tournament with both men�s and women�s open singles and doubles, mixed open doubles and a men�s 35�s clay court singles division. Defending men�s champion Brian Joelson returns with the top seed against a number of talented players. "The caliber of play has really grown over the past five years," said RVST tennis director Carey Collins. "It should be a great Open this year." Joelson, who has played in Wimbledon, the French Open and the U.S. Open, faces the likes of Jan-Michael Gambill and other stellar open players. Gambill, a native of Spokane, Wash., was once ranked in the top 30 worldwide. The opening rounds for men�s singles run from 1:30-9 p.m., with the clay court singles going from 5-9 p.m. Both men�s and women�s 4.0 singles and doubles start at 4:30 p.m. and run until 9 p.m. Quarterfinal play for men�s singles is 11 a.m. Saturday with the men�s doubles� opening round beginning at 2 p.m. Women�s and men�s open singles semifinals start at 3:30 and 5 p.m., respectively, with the mixed open doubles semifinals also starting at 5 p.m. All clay court finals start at 9 a.m. Sunday along with the men�s open doubles semifinals. The women�s singles finals begin at 11 a.m. with the men�s to follow at 12:30 p.m. The men�s doubles final wraps things up with a 2 p.m. start time. The Rogue Valley Open is free of charge to the public.
