Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend February 1, 2003 Lakeview holds off Hidden Valley MURPHY — Lakeview employed a 1-2-2 zone defense that disrupted Hidden Valley’s perimeter shooting just enough in the fourth quarter to enable the Honkers to emerge with a 42-36 Skyline Conference victory. "This is what Skyline basketball is all about," Hidden Valley coach Mike Schafer said. "Lakeview, in my opinion, is a dynasty. They only have an enrollment of 350 kids, but they put a quality team on the floor in any sport they play. "They are so well-coached. You can imagine what they’re going to be like in a couple of years when they drop down to 2A." Megan Albertson chased down a long rebound on a missed free-throw attempt and scored, giving the Honkers (5-1 Skyline) a six-point lead with 30 seconds remaining. "We had intentionally fouled to put them at the line and they came up with the rebound and the basket. That was big," Schafer said. "They went to a 1-2-2 zone late in the game and it put pressure on our outside shooters and that slowed our scoring." The Mustangs outscored the Honkers 18-13 in the fourth quarter, but could not overcome a 29-19 deficit. Hidden Valley point guard Stephanie Dean scored 17 points to lead the Mustangs (5-10, 3-3 Skyline). Shea Ford added 11 rebounds and eight points for the Mustangs. The Hornets (5-1 Skyline) opened up a 38-20 lead at the half and led by 21 points entering the final quarter. Kim Hamilton paced the Cougars (1-5 Skyline) with 16 points.
