SOU’s Regino receives All-America nod By SOU Sports Information Dec 15, 2022 04:47 PM A A ASHLAND — Southern Oregon University’s Jake Regino netted NAIA All-America honorable mention status Thursday, putting his standout senior season in elite company. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound linebacker from Sacramento logged 113 tackles over 10 games for an average of 11.3 that was the best in the Frontier Conference and fifth-best in the NAIA. He became the first Raider in eight years to lead the conference in tackles per game. Last month, Regino was among four Raiders named to the All-Frontier first team. Only five other Raiders in the last 20 years have received an NAIA All-America defensive nod. He pulled it off despite missing almost all of the two preceding seasons. After SOU opted out of the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 campaign, he went down with a season-ending injury in the 2021 opener. Regino started this fall in prime form with the first of his eight double-figure tackle performances. He was voted the Frontier Defensive Player of the Week after totaling a career-high 16 tackles and an interception on Sept. 24 at Carroll (Mont.), and he was voted the NAIA Player of the Week after amassing 15 tackles, an interception and a strip-sack on Oct. 8 against Montana Western. He wrapped up averaging two full tackles per game more than any other player in the Frontier, and was also seventh on the tackles-for-losses leaderboard with 9 1/2. Since debuting as a true freshman in 2018, Regino appeared 26 career games for the Raiders and recorded 198 tackles with 18 for losses.
