Cascade Christian wallops Riddle In its final non-league tuneup before Southern Cascade League play tips off, the Cascade Christian boys basketball team pounded Riddle, 64-41, at Superior Gym in Medford on Saturday. Sophomore forward Brandon Fair scored 11 of his team-high 14 points in the third quarter, when the Challengers (7-7 overall) stretched their 12-point halftime lead to 52-26 entering the fourth. Implementing an opportunistic full-court press, Cascade Christian forced 13 turnovers in the third, including nine steals. Junior guard Jon Gettman had four of his seven steals in the quarter. Junior post Sam Kinney notched a double-double for the Challengers with 10 points and 10 rebounds. After suffering a six-game losing streak earlier in the season, Cascade is now primed and ready for SCL action, which begins Friday. "(Junior point guard) Mychal Sha's finally back at full strength, which makes a big difference for our team," said 14th-year Challengers head coach Brian Morse. "I feel very good. Our intensity level was high, as it should be. We didn't have that the last couple weeks. But now I feel good about where we are going into SCL play." Skyline A HOSANNA CHRISTIAN 70, PROSPECT 24 - At Prospect, Bryon Andresen scored 14 points to lead Prospect, but the Cougars couldn't handle Hosanna Christian's Jeremy Chronister or Martin Axnich. Chronister scored 19 points and Axnich added 15 to hand Prospect its eighth loss in nine games overall. The Cougars (0-2 Skyline A) stayed close after the first quarter but Hosanna burst to 23-7 second-quarter and 22-6 third-period scoring advantages to spell doom for Prospect. Freeman scored 17 of his 25 points in the second half to rally North Lake to a Skyline A League South Division victory. The Cowboys (2-7 overall, 1-1 Sky A) trailed 28-23 at the half and 36-35 entering the fourth quarter. Brighton Academy (4-5, 0-2 Sky A) was led by sophomore point guard Miles Hohnspein's 16 points. BUTTE FALLS 87, NEW HOPE CHRISTIAN 64 - At Butte Falls, Nick Rodgers scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Butte Falls used a relentless full-court press to blow past New Hope Christian. The Loggers forced 25 turnovers, with Rodgers' six steals leading the way. Tyler Hersom recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Tony Beals scored all eight of his points from the foul line in 13 attempts and also had nine boards. Isaac Stephenson dished out seven assists.
