Challengers take third place with 68-54 victory Boys prep basketball ADAIR VILLAGE -- One big quarter proved to be enough to carry Cascade Christian's boys basketball team to a win in the third-place game at the Santiam Christian Tournament. Andy Baker and Brian Prins combined for 19 of the Challengers' 25 points in the second-quarter to propel Cascade Christian to a 68-54 win over City Christian, who could only counter with 10 in the pivotal period. The Challengers (1-1) had 17 steals, frustrating City Christian into 24 turnovers on the night. Don Jenkins led the defensive attack with six steals while Andy Kimmelshue had five. MARY'S 94, LAS PLUMAS 35 -- At Etna, Calif., St. Mary's capped a perfect 3-0 run in the Etna Tipoff Tournament with another dominating performance. Led by all-tournament players Chris Murphy, Geoff Haas and Derek Phillips, St. Mary's (3-0) stormed to a 27-1 lead after one quarter and never looked back as every Crusader on the roster scored against Las Plumas. Murphy poured in a game-high 21 points, while Haas added 12 and Phillips nine. Haas was named the tournament's offensive MVP, while Phillips was named defensive MVP. Michael Fiddler added 13 points and Thatcher Jones had 10 for the Crusaders. Jeff Jentzsch had 12 points and Zach Badley added 10 but Rogue River couldn't overcome a 30-14 halftime deficit. Jentzsch also added five rebounds. Jason Simmons paced Oakland with 17 points.
