PREP VB: Clevenger propels South Medford over GP By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Oct 06, 2022 09:53 PM A A GRANTS PASS — South Medford senior Katie Clevenger enjoyed another big outing and the Panthers were able to notch their sixth straight victory with a straight-set win over Grants Pass in Southwest Conference volleyball Thursday night. Clevenger finished with 20 kills, 13 digs, four aces and two blocks to propel the Panthers to a 25-19, 25-20, 25-20 triumph. “She was on fire tonight,” said South Medford coach Robin Akpan, whose team improved to 18-4 overall and 8-1 in SWC play. Baylee Davis added 35 assists, two kills and a handful of digs for the Panthers, while Brooke Johnston contributed eight kills and two aces and Cameron Christian came up with 10 digs. Lola Horton also had four kills in the sweep of Grants Pass (3-11, 1-7). “We had a strong night serving and we took care of the ball when it was on our side of the net,” added Akpan, whose team next plays in the Sherwood Tournament on Saturday. NORTH MEDFORD 3, WILLAMETTE 0: North Medford senior Ella Empasis had 11 assists and three aces and the Black Tornado put up seven blocks as a team in cruising to the Southwest Conference victory, 25-22, 25-23, 25-12. Paije Carpenter had eight kills and Kristina Atonio added six kills for North Medford (8-9, 4-5 SWC), while Maddie Black chipped in with 11 assists and Raegan Boice had 10 digs to deny Willamette (3-11, 0-9). CRATER 3, ASHLAND 0: At Ashland, Crater authored another straight-set win in Midwestern League play, getting 12 kills and five aces from senior Kendra Bittle to secure a 25-11, 25-17, 25-10 triumph. Kate Stidham supplied 24 assists, nine digs and two aces and Maddie Kocina had nine kills, five digs and one ace to pace the Comets (12-4, 7-0 MWL). Alexa Gugliotta added six kills and Joslyhn Pope had 12 digs to deny Ashland (0-11, 0-8). EAGLE POINT 3, HIDDEN VALLEY 0: At Eagle Point, Addison Holcomb managed 19 kills and 18 digs and Emma Kness had 10 kills and 27 digs as host Eagle Point earned its third win in the past four matches, 25-22, 29-27, 25-14. Makynlee Schauffler supplied 34 assists and Abby Trautman had five kills and 24 digs for the Eagles (7-6), who got five kills from Baylee Mullen and 13 digs from Jaylinn Holte. PHOENIX 3, KLAMATH UNION 0: At Phoenix, senior Ami Safady provided a double-double with 12 digs and 11 kills to go with four blocks and a 12-for-13 effort from the service line and Makynna Nolan had a big night with 16 digs, eight kills and four blocks as she was 16-for-17 serving to lead Phoenix to its first Skyline Conference win. Faith MacGregor had 22 assists and seven digs and Morgan Miles came up with 14 digs and nine kills for the Pirates (5-12, 1-5 Skyline). Ariah Potts finished with 15 digs and two kills and Seneca Ikemire had four kills and clinching kills in the second and third sets. ST. MARY’S 3, LAKEVIEW 0: At Lakeview, St. Mary’s had four players reach double figures in digs to highlight a strong defensive effort that allowed the Crusaders to post their seventh straight victory, 25-19, 25-15, 25-17. Emma Johnston supplied 17 digs to go with six kills and a 19-for-19 effort from the service line with four aces for St. Mary’s (13-5, 6-1 FWL), while Kaitlyn Hansen had 11 digs and 25 assists. Kelsey Dunn led the Crusaders with 10 kills and six blocks, while Maddie Ward added six kills and six blocks. Noelle Thickett and Albie Borovansky each finished with 10 digs against Lakeview (9-10, 2-4).
