Crater gets off to quick start SPRINGFIELD - Crater received strong performances from its two senior all-stars - Sarah Pool and Amy Denson - and registered a season-opening girls basketball road victory over Springfield on Tuesday. Pool and Denson both had double-doubles as the Comets cruised to a 62-35 victory over the Millers. "We shot the ball well from the three-point line and we played good defense," Crater coach David Heard said. The Comets had six players score three-point baskets on 9-of-17 shooting. Overall the Comets were 20 of 45 from the field. Pool scored a game-high 19 points to go with 10 assists, while Denson contributed 14 points and 14 rebounds. Denson also had six steals. Springfield (2-2) was limited to 10-of-34 shooting from the field. Crater led 12-10 after the opening quarter, but opened up a 31-18 halftime lead. "We just started to wear them down," said Heard. "We played 10 bodies consistently. We didn't get any transition layins off the press, but it made them hurry their shots. Every shot they took we challenged them." Sophomore small forward Katie Robertson provided the Comets a lift off the bench. Robertson scored seven of her nine points in the second quarter when Crater outscored the Millers 19-8.
