On the Internet, that is. Fairgoers can broadcast themselves on the World Wide Web thanks to new technology brought by two Ashland software companies. "It’s a research and development project on our part," said Alan Oppenheimer of Open Door Networks. Oppenheimer and Jim Teece of Project A plan to demonstrate the live Internet broadcasts at the Qwest Technology Pavilion. The fair runs today through Sunday at the Jackson County Expo in Central Point. Their project will allow fairgoers to cruise the tent or even the grounds with digital video cameras, shooting footage they can broadcast over the Internet. Advertisement Visitors also are welcome to bring their own digital cameras. The Project A booth will have wireless computers to download into. The broadcasts can be viewed on www.jcfairgrounds.com/ . "There will be prominent points (on the Web site) telling you what to do," Teece said. Oppenheimer and Teece organized a similar project for Ashland’s Fourth of July parade, when eight residents broadcast the parade live from different vantage points along the route. Oppenheimer said he sees lots of uses for the camera/laptop technology, including sporting events and even weddings — for relatives unable to attend, for example. "At this point it’s been totally free," Oppenheimer said. "Once we get out of learning mode, ... then we’re going to figure out how to make it a paid service to people." Where: Jackson County Expo, Central Point. Hours: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. today through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. 4-H exhibits open earlier; carnival rides stay open until midnight today through Saturday.Admission: $8 adults, $5 for youth ages 7 to 12 and seniors 62 and older, and free for children 6 and under. Parking: $4. Shuttle: From the Rogue Valley Mall in Medford, the shuttle will run every 30 minutes from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., every 15 minutes from 5 p.m. to midnight; from Crater High School in Central Point, it will run every 15 minutes during the day and every 10 minutes at night. On Sunday, the shuttle will depart every 30 minutes from the mall and 15 minutes from the high school. Cost is $1, with discounts for seniors and children. Carnival rides: Individual ride coupons are 85 cents each. Wristbands, good from noon to 5 p.m. daily, are $17. Sheets of 24 coupons cost $17, 80 coupons $50. Most rides take four to five coupons.
