Meldo Hillis of the public schools of this city observes that the students are all anxious to enter the letter-writing campaign that will culminate next week in sending out hundreds of letter from this city to people of the east and south, describing the marvelous scenic beauties of the southern Oregon country and incidentally giving a deal of data concerning our resources. It will be made a part of the regular work in English in the schools, Professor Hillis says, and there will be no "hot air work" about it. The letters will be accompanied by poster stamps, 600 of which have been supplied by the Medford Commercial club, Secretary Latta affording the students every assistance possible in conjunction with the work of the teachers. "This is a wonderfully charming country to write about," said Superintendent Hillis today, "and our students will enter upon the task with great pleasure, although they regard it as a business proposition. Their work will be held strictly to truth about the valley and its picturesque environments and resources. Pictures of the most attractive spots of scenic beauty in and about Rogue River valley will accompany these letters. They will supply a substantial feature. The matter of sending some of the letters to the newspapers in eastern communities will be taken up by the teachers this week. It is believed that would give the data sent out additional publicity, and there is no doubt that community papers in the east and south will be glad to give them space. The Commercial club favors that idea, also." LOCAL AND PERSONAL A good attendance is promised at the chicken meeting next Saturday afternoon at the public market. The committee on solicitations will report at that time on the proposition as to whether or not businessmen of the city and of various other business centers of the country will favor a poultry show in February. So far the committee has strong assurances that the businessmen of Medford will favor it most substantially.
