Trefren to the Odd Fellows' lodge at Grants Pass Wednesday night was made a gala event in the annals of that organization in matters of that nature in southern Oregon. In addition to the lecture by the grand warden, a somewhat pretentious program was rendered, consisting of music, congratulatory talks, a recitation of "The Life Boat," accompanied by a stereopticon show by W. W. Ussher of Ashland, which proved to be an especially entertaining feature of the evening; a banquet, bountiful in spread and palatable in an unusual degree, with a social program after the big feed. Many more than 100 members participated in the evening's business and merriment, and pronounced it one of the most enjoyable events of the season in Grants Pass. The illustrated talk and recitation by Mr. Ussher was a new appeal on occasions of that kind and all voted it a splendid success. Grand Warden Trefren and Mr. Ussher will go to Eagle Point tonight for a similar event. DULL MARKET FOR BARREL APPLES E. L. Goodsell, the fruit auctioneer of New York, who recently lectured in Medford, writes as follows: "The barrel apple market has been inexplicably dull, with prices ranging around $3 for Greenings and Baldwins and up to $4 for fancy red varieties. These figures mean a loss to speculators, which is very regrettable. "Western box apples are finding a more active market this week. "Winesaps and Spitzenbergs, fancy grades, are selling about $1.75 per box. Extra fancy sell up to $2.25 and $2.50 in a limited way. Newtown Pippins range between $1.75 to $2.25. "These prices show a loss to holders which will have a discouraging bearing on the 1916 crop, as regards to speculative purchases. "Your fruit association has all the details of the plan for shipping to Europe by a direct steamer. If you are interested I will be glad to send you a copy."
