The scores were 17-0 and 4-2. Ken Strate rapped four hits, including a pair of doubles, and Phil Ouellette and Brian Stock added three hits each in the first-game romp that saw the RiverDogs (8-8) amass 23 hits to go with their 17 runs. Ryan Heil, Jeremy Frantz, Dan Bruce and Timmerman added two hits each for the winners. In Game 2, Matt Smith hit an RBI double and Phil Ouellette smacked a two-run single in a three-run second inning that put Southern Oregon ahead to stay. The same two teams meet today at 11 a.m. for a nine-inning game at Miles Field. Little League DISTRICT 6 11-12-YEAR-OLD TOURNAMENT — At Klamath Falls, Medford American Blue (5-0) defeated Klamath Falls South Suburban 8-1 Saturday to clinch a transfer spot into today’s finals. Pitcher Matt Maurer had 13 strikeouts for the Blue and allowed only four hits in a full six innings of work. South Suburban never held the lead as Medford began to distance itself with a solo home run by Cody James in the fourth to make it 3-1. Colin Sowers had two doubles and three RBIs and Michael Paxton knocked out two hits with two RBIs to lead Medford. Chad Swan had a solo home run of his own in the third inning to highlight South Suburban. The victor in today’s championship matchup against Ashland (5-0) will proceed to the state tournament beginning July 17 in Gresham. In 9-10-year-old semifinal action, Klamath Basin used stifling defense to shut out Medford American Red 10-0 in four innings. Klamath pulled two double plays to douse Medford’s hopes of getting on the board. The Red was able to produce only three hits in the game while Klamath Basin stretched out two triples and two doubles as part of its nine-hit effort. The championship game will begin at 10 a.m. today with Klamath Basin facing Upper Rogue. Both teams have made it to the finals after advancing as the second seeds out of their respective pool brackets. DISTRICT 8 11-YEAR-OLD TOURNAMENT — At Klamath Falls, Max Anderson pitched a complete game and Lee Dodds provided a spark with the bat to lead Ashland to a 4-3 victory over Klamath Falls South Suburban at the district tournament. The same two teams meet today for the title, with the winner advancing to state. DISTRICT 8 SOFTBALL — Rogue River squeaked by Central Point 12-11, and Gold Valley defeated Grants Pass 10-5 Saturday in the opening games of 9-10-year-old pool play. In the 11-12-year-old brackets, Medford beat Central Valley 16-5, and Grants Pass won a 21-10 slugfest against Rogue River. The 13-14-year-old division saw Central Valley lose to Brookings-Harbor 11-10, while Grants Pass dealt Rogue River a 16-4 loss. The only two teams in the Seniors class, Rogue Valley and Gold Valley, opened their best 3-of-5 series with a doubleheader split. Rogue Valley picked up the first game 13-9. Nine runs proved to be enough for Gold Valley in Game 2 as it evened the score with a 9-7 nightcap victory in the 13-15-year-old category.
